Why Every Parent (and Caregiver) Should Learn First Aid & CPR

When we think about emergencies, most of us imagine dramatic scenes — flashing lights, sirens, or accidents happening somewhere. But the truth is that most emergencies happen at home, and most often, they involve someone we love.

According to the Canadian Red Cross, up to 80% of cardiac arrests occur in private or residential settings. Everyday incidents like choking, falls, allergic reactions, or burns can happen in seconds. Yet in many of these cases, timely and confident first aid can make all the difference — sometimes between life and death.

Knowledge that Empowers Families and Professionals

At Mama Doula, we know that caring for others goes far beyond comfort and compassion, it also means being prepared.
That’s why learning First Aid and CPR is one of the most valuable acts of care you can offer to your family, your clients, or your community.

These essential skills are for everyone, not just healthcare professionals:

  • Parents and grandparents
  • Nannies, babysitters, and caregivers
  • Birth and postpartum doulas
  • Early childhood educators and perinatal professionals
  • Anyone who spends time with children or vulnerable people
